The myth surrounding in-house engineering teams is that because they have been in place for many years, they know all there is to know about the facilities and are therefore essentially irreplaceable. In fact, while this experience and accumulated knowledge is indeed an asset, it is all too often accompanied by complacency, rigidity, and a lack of innovation. In other words, most in-house engineering teams tend to do things the way they have always done them and are rarely motivated to deliver continuous improvement. Moreover, employing an in-house engineering team means having a consistent number of staff on the payroll, with little flexibility to adapt to busier and quieter periods. Therefore, the truth is that in-house teams are often not the best option, and that by outsourcing all or part of your business’s engineering solutions to an experienced facility engineering provider, you can unlock significant and long-lasting benefits for your company’s facilities.

Continuity of Service

In-house engineering teams do tend to possess a lot of knowledge and information regarding the assets they work with. Thus, the fear is that when they leave, this data leaves with them, but it does not need to be like this. The best engineering service providers use Computer-aided facility management (CAFM) systems and software to gather and store data so that it will always be available, regardless of personnel changes. Crucially, this data remains the property of the company and therefore can be used by the in-house team or even in the case of changing providers. This way, continuity of service is assured going forward.

Continuous Improvement

Many in-house teams have certain ways of doing things and carry out their work in the same way year after year. While consistency is a virtue, so too is the ability to adapt to change and deliver continuous improvement to the level of service provided. An experienced service provider can look at your company’s processes with fresh eyes and identify key areas in which improvements can be made in terms of performance, safety, and cost-saving. Many providers are also happy to work with the existing in-house team to realise these improvements by training and upskilling both new and current staff to ensure that they have the knowledge and skills to implement necessary changes.

Scalability

Hiring an in-house team can be expensive, and there will inevitably be times when the staff are under or overworked. Outsourced engineering services, on the other hand, can provide much needed flexibility and scalability. Top engineering service providers can deliver smaller or larger teams as required and have the agility to help your business to adapt to ever-evolving service requirements. Some providers even offer mobile teams which can add instant labour to solve emerging issues promptly and efficiently.

Innovation and Technology

A key advantage of working with a leading engineering solutions provider is the opportunity to benefit from their expertise in delivering innovative solutions using the latest technology. CAFM software and systems, for example, can offer a complete real-time view of the operations and maintenance of a facility, allowing for remote management of scheduled maintenance across the facilities and smarter decision making. Another area of innovation relates to the implementation of sensors connected to the Internet of Things (IoT) to gather invaluable data regarding workplace conditions and to assist in the management of the lifecycle of critical assets. IoT solutions can assist in dramatically reducing costly downtime caused by malfunctioning equipment while delivering significant cost savings. Above all, IoT sensors are replacing the outdated approach of manual visual inspections favoured by in-house teams with a system of continuous monitoring that allows for a focus on predictive and preventative maintenance which can lead to considerable increases in equipment uptime, lowers risk and improves savings.

Modern slavery is a growing global concern. Data indicates that the number of people suffering from this terrible crime is increasing by 20% every four years, with recent figures showing that 50 million people are now held in modern slavery conditions worldwide.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate K.Eissaranon, Senior TFM Manager at Harrow International School – Bangkok, for being recognised with the TRUE Award in the Superstar Category. His leadership during the recent earthquake emergency was nothing short of exceptional.

On Friday, 28th March, while the school was hosting a major international football tournament with over 1,000 external guests, the campus experienced unexpected tremors. Within moments,  K.Eissaranon and the PCS team sprang into action—activating emergency protocols, coordinating evacuation, and ensuring the safety of every pupil, staff member, and guest.

Through clear communication, quick decision-making, and seamless teamwork, they successfully evacuated the entire school. Each department played a vital role—from securing buildings and shutting off utilities to distributing water and providing shade from the heat.

In the words of K.Mathew Rees, Director of Operations, Harrow International School Bangkok:

“I cannot commend the PCS team highly enough. Their professionalism, support, and presence throughout the two and a half hours we were on the field made all the difference. Their commitment continued into the weekend as they helped us prepare to reopen. It was a privilege to have them by our side.”

K.Eissaranon’s humility and team-first mindset remind us what true leadership looks like.

This award doesn’t just recognise individual excellence—it celebrates the strength of collaboration, trust, and preparedness.

Congratulations once again to K. K.Eissaranon and the entire PCS team. Your dedication inspires us all.
